Save Moseley Village petition
A Save Moseley Village from Tesco threat campaign has been launched by Moseley residents, with an online petition on http://www.gopetition.com/petition/42208.html
The aim is to persuade the Planning Committee to refuse the current Planning Application (2009/05931/PA) as the proposed development is too large for the site, creating significant traffic and parking problems.
Moseley does not need another supermarket and this development will cause long-term harm to the village.
Details of the proposal are in earlier updates about Meteor Ford/Tesco.
Campaigners were at the Farmers' Market on Saturday (Jan 22nd) with petitions to sign and pro-forma letters, to add personal comments to, to send to the Planning Department.
Local shops showing a poster will have paper copies to sign - further petition sheets to collect signatures in your road will be available at the Moseley Exchange, where completed sheets can be delivered.
Moseley Forum, working with the Moseley Business Association, has discovered that the new information about the traffic impact, and the expected turnover of the Tesco store, has changed the minds of many shopkeepers about the proposed development. They are joining the campaign.
If you wish to send your view of the Planning Application by email, send it to or to , the Chair of the Planning Committee, to arrive before February 10th as this may be considered by the Planning Committee on that date.
The campaign is being co-ordinated by Jo Jones ().
UPDATE 28 Jan 2011
Since Friday about 1,100 signatures have been collected, at least 750 on paper and 350 online. Almost all the protesters online are from Birmingham or have a Birmingham connection.
In addition Jo Jones has collected 79 letters, based on a pro forma and has sent them to the Planning Department.
The survey of Moseley businesses by the SAVE MOSELEY VILLAGE campaign has found 24 businesses who oppose the planning application, 2 neutral and 1 in favour. The MBA is consulting their members again, with the new information available, and will write to the Planning Committee before February 10th.
